affiliate, and in the 32 years since its founding, Habitat NWMA has
built, renovated, or repaired 506 homes in its service area and
supported the building of over 350 homes in Uganda, its
international tithing partner.Job DescriptionJob Description
(Summary)Reporting to the Chair and the Board of Directors, the
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest
Metro Atlanta, Inc. ("Habitat NWMA") provides the overall
leadership, strategy and direction for the organization, overseeing
programs, operations, and fundraising. This executive clearly and
persuasively articulates the mission of Habitat NWMA for decent,
affordable housing for every family in the communities we
serve.Together with the board of directors, the CEO develops a
strategic plan that works toward this vision, translates the plan
into annual action, and energizes board, staff, and external
partners to action. This individual inspires, values, and empowers
others, from staff and volunteers to those in the communities
served. The CEO is the face of the organization, a sought-after
advocate and a thought leader in the community. The selected
candidate will establish and nurture relationships and
collaborative partnerships with a variety of stakeholders to
advance the mission of the organization for greater impact. By
increasing the number of families placed in decent affordable homes
while developing new and varied ways of accomplishing that, the
executive will make the affiliate a "difference maker."Duties &
Responsibilities:To reach the vision of Habitat NWMA, achieve the
goals of the current strategic plan, and to fulfill its mission,
the successful candidate should exemplify the competencies listed
below.
- Provide Visionary Leadership & Strategic Thinking
- Developing and conveying a vision internally and externally to
energize donors, sponsors, influencers, employees, partners, and
aspiring homeowners, as well as others whose involvement is needed
for success.
- Working with a board and staff in a leadership role to develop
a strategic plan that was, or is currently being, implemented
successfully.
- Continuously identifying opportunities aligned with the mission
and strategic goals of the organization, presenting the best to the
board for evaluation and approval as appropriate.
- Working closely with staff department heads and board committee
chairs to ensure they have clear roles and plans for
accountability, including annual objectives directly tied to the
strategic plan.
- Monitoring progress against the strategic plan and
corresponding budgets, making recommendations to the board to
capitalize on successes, make course corrections, and mitigate
unforeseen issues.
- Oversee Resource Development
- Developing and documenting a funding strategy for the period of
the strategic plan in order to meet its resource needs.
- Increasing, strengthening and diversifying funding sources,
including one-on-one solicitation with major donors and private
foundations, deferred giving campaigns, corporate, in-kind support,
and earned revenue.
- Mobilizing and motivating volunteers as fundraisers, including
board members.
- Provide Relationship Development and Communications
- Identifying the relationships essential to achieving the vision
of their organization.
- Nurturing existing relationships, not only with donors and
sponsors, but also with other partners, influencers, and the
internal audiences of staff and board.
- Motivating and utilizing board members to engage and leverage
their networks for the purpose of developing new board members,
volunteers, and community partnerships, in addition to
funding.
- Developing a communication strategy to communicate effectively
internally with employees and the board, and externally with all
stakeholders using the full range of methods, techniques, and
tools.
- Speaking with evident passion about a topic of importance,
combining quantitative facts with qualitative stories in a mix
appropriate to the audience.
- Leadership, Talent Development, and Management
- Working with a board and staff to capitalize on individual
members' respective skills and passions.
- Change Management; that is, having brought an organization
through systemic and/or a challenging season of change.
- Attracting, hiring, developing, and retaining the highest level
of continuously-improving staff members by creating a hiring and
development plan tied directly to the strategic plan.
- Developing performance and leadership through education,
mentorship, and opportunities to stretch the capabilities of staff
members.
- Seeking guidance from staff members in matters of content
expertise, as well as organizational direction.
- Inspiring trust and confidence through personal demonstration
of thoughtful leadership, business acumen and results
orientation.
- Introducing and maintaining a culture of team and individual
accountability, along with systems and communication tools to
ensure an efficient team.
- Developing and maintaining an open and welcoming work
environment where employees feel safe and secure and a spirit of
collaboration and mutual support exists.
- Ensure Operational & Financial Excellence
- Working cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals,
resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational
effectiveness.
- Developing new and efficient ways to improve and streamline
operations of their organizations in a manner that improves quality
and outcomes.
- Managing an organization that relies on volunteers for a
significant amount of its work.
- Assisting department heads with development of annual plans
with objectives, timelines, and required resources for successful
implementation and execution of the strategic plan.
- Establishing the systems to collect data, develop compliance,
measure outcomes, and adjust programs as appropriate based on the
information gained.
- Administering an effective budget process and preparation,
including all internal stakeholders, and evidence of planning for
capital needs and financial reserves.
- Ensuring compliance with all legal, safety and regulatory
authorities, laws and procedures.
- Provide executive oversight to ensure effective internal
controls and financial discipline are in place to enable the strong
financial position of the organization.
- Provide executive oversight to construction material purchasing
manager, ensuring all financial and operational needs are
supported.
- Provide executive oversight to construction and repairs and
ensure that all work complies with state, county, city and local
building codes and requirements.
- Land Acquisition and Development
- Working with real estate brokers, city and county
organizations, private entities and others to identify lots and
parcels of land in Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Counties that can be
acquired by the Affiliate to facilitate pursuing its mission.
- Oversee and ensure all due diligence is conducted to evaluate
the viability of the Affiliate purchasing a piece of land.Preferred
ExperienceQualifications & Skills:ExperienceThe ideal candidate is
a leader who has a track record of producing significant results in
a complex business. Innovation and openness to new ideas or
approaches is highly valued. The successful CEO candidate must have
a passion for the mission and ministry, the ability to effectively
lead staff, engage volunteers, and to cultivate donors and
sponsors. Experience as a successful fundraiser and manager of
business is crucial. Real estate and finance knowledge, while
positively advantageous, is not a requirement.Relevant industry
knowledgeThe successful candidate will demonstrate progress with
systemic issues through programs and influence. Knowledge of
affordable real estate development, land usage, urban planning,
finance, the mortgage business and housing issues may be an
advantage but is not necessary. Understanding generational poverty
and the support needs of vulnerable populations and communities is
more important.Industry experience working on land acquisition and
development for affordable residential construction, including
assessing lot and land development requirements and associated
costs strongly desired.Additional QualificationsA strategic thinker
who thrives on problem solving, and takes an energetic, proactive
approach to meeting organizational needs.Excellent interpersonal,
relationship-building skills.Strong verbal, written, communication,
and presentation skills.Strong planning, collaboration,
problem-solving skills, including a willingness to take a "hands
on" approach in handling the land acquisition and construction
responsibilities of the Affiliate.Demonstrated leadership
experience and results in managing a team.Physically able to
perform assigned duties, including: Ability to sit at computer and
keyboard for moderate periods; Mobility sufficient to move about
build sites including climbing stairs; Sight and hearing adequate
to perform the duties of the job, including communicating clearly;
and Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds on an occasional
basis.Education:Bachelor's degree required; a graduate degree in a
